Curtis Yanito is a Navajo who creates artwork in many different mediums from pottery and sculptures to paintings. His pieces tell a story about his life and heritage that symbolize many different Shamans. This painting was created of his brother, the original which he has kept. It is a powerful piece that captures the genuine feeling of the Native American Culture.
Curtis creates hand etched petrologyh pottery that is made from his own molds. He pours the molds and while the pottery is soft he etches different animals, Shamans, Indian faces ect., according to the ancestry of his own clan. The next step is to fire the pottery and add glaze to the inside of vessels used for water. He then paints and seals each piece which gives the impression of wood grain, but actually he finishes each piece to replicate the minerals that have stained the face of the cliffs over thousands of years. Each piece is one of a kind.
